Obituary for Aurelia De Sousa
On December 27th, Aurelia G. De Sousa quietly passed away. Born in Ludlow to Antonio Andre and Maria Calada, she returned to Portugal as a young girl. There, after attending school and becoming a professional seamstress, she opened her own business. It was through one of her customers that she met her future husband, Roberto Sousa. Once WWII was over, Aurelia and Roberto journeyed to America and settled in her home town. Aurelia worked many years for Carter’s and Cromwell Mills until her retirement in 1978. She also was very active in the Portuguese community by serving on numerous committees, marching in the parades
and cooking for special banquets and parties. But, in keeping with her true passion, she sewed for many friends and families throughout her retirement years. Aurelia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Roberto, brothers Peter (Mac), Acacio (Casey) and Albert (Mickey). She leaves her son, Robert and his wife Rosalina (Roz) along with her nephew, Rick Andre and his wife, Linda. The family would like to thank her aides and nurses at Wingate, South Hadley for their devotion and care during the past four years. All funeral arrangements were private. In lieu of flowers please make donations in Aurelia’s name to the charity of one's choice.
