Obituary for Benjamin G. Santos
Benjamin G Santos, 92, of Ludlow, passed away at home on May 13, 2017. Born in Santo Andre, Portugal, he lived most of his life in Ludlow where he was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, proud member and past President of the Gremio Lusitano Club, a member of the Portuguese American Citizens Club, a 42 year town precinct member, a member of the Ludlow Town Hall building committee, and an original corporator for Luso Federal Credit Union, also serving on the construction committee for its new building. Benny was a longtime employee of Savage Arms in Westfield from where he retired and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid sports fan, loving all New England sports teams, Benfica, and also enjoyed his time as a local coach and referee for soccer, lacrosse, and little league. Benny was the beloved husband of 73 years to Ana (Coelho) Santos; a devoted father to Maria Santos and husband Jack, of Ludlow, a loving grandfather to Michael Santos and wife Caitlin, of Cantwell Alaska, and Anthony dos Santos and wife Carrie, of Dow, Illinois; an adoring great-grandfather to Max, Jack, and Emma Santos; a dear brother to the late Alceu, Arlindo, Manuel “Blankets” Santos, and Ezaura Goncalves; and also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Funeral services for Benny will be held on Wednesday, May 17th at 10:15am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours will precede the funeral from 8:30-10:15am.
