Obituary for Clifton G. Childs
Clifton G. Childs, 96, of Chauncey Walker, Belchertown, Ma. on August 3, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Northampton, son of the late Archie E. and Pearl M. Childs, he graduated from Northampton High School Class of 1940, Northampton Commercial College Class of 1942 and attended night classes and extension courses at UCONN. Clifton worked for Foster Farrar Co in Northampton, Milton Bradley in Springfield, was a Purchasing Agent for Flight Enterprises in Windsor Locks, and a P.A. and contract administrator at Kamam A/C Corp in Bloomfield, Ct.. He retired from Avibank MFG Co. in Burbank, Ca in 1988 as an engineering consultant covering all six New England states. Clifton was also active in the Musician's Union and Jerusalem Lodge of Masons, both in Northampton and in 1953, he moved to Southwick where he attended Southwick Congregational Church. There he also became Committee Chairman of Boy Scout Troop 114, was a member of the LIons Club, and the Civil Defense Team. In addition, Clifton also belonged to the Kaman Aerospace Management Club, Purchasing Agents ASSOC. American Helicopter Society, Air Force Association, Belchertown Country Club, American Legion Post 239, and was the former treasurer of the P.V.P.C.C. Clifton was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen (Wood) Childs in 2008. He leaves his children Beverly A. Aube, of Holland, Clifton Gregory Childs, of Granby, Barbara M. Barnard, of Gardner, and William L. Childs, of Belchertown; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; many loving extended family members and dear friends. Funeral services for Clifton will be held privately by his family with burial in New Cemetery, Southwick. Donations may be made in Clifton’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (stjude.org).
