Obituary for Jo-Anne Ryan
Jo-Anne Ryan, 66, of Ludlow passed away peacefully on Nov 12, 2016 at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. Born in Springfield, MA she was the daughter of Jeanne A. (McDermott) Ryan and her late husband James J. Ryan, Jr.

She attended STCC, Elms College and went on to receive her BSA and MSA in accounting from Western New England College. She was a Controller at Albany International before leaving to pursue a more rewarding career where she could use her immense skill and intellect helping small businesses and people find success, on her own terms. She was founder and President of Ryan Associates accounting firm in Feeding Hills, MA where she practiced for more than 30 years.

Joanne was a happy, fun loving, hard working woman with a brilliant mind who loved life, her family and her work. She focused her passion of helping those in need by volunteering her time and wisdom to organizations, providing skills and support to women entering the work force. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Open Pantry for many years. Jo-Anne continued to contribute to her community through her grass roots effort to bring Christmas gifts to children and their families of the Head Start Program. She organized “All I want for Christmas” a non-profit charity helping children and their families over the holiday season fulfilling her mission to assist those in need. She provided food, household items, clothing and toys that would bring joy to children and their families. Jo-Anne dedicated her life to giving, it was her greatest joy and her kindness was evident in all her actions.

Jo-Anne leaves behind her daughter Lisa Preston of New York, NY and Michael Preston and his fiancée Kimberly Goodrich of West Springfield MA.

Jo – Anne leaves her eight brothers and sisters; James Ryan and his wife Gayle of Ludlow, MA; Margaret Adams and her husband Richard of Ludlow MA; Christine Ryan Day of Chicopee, MA; Patricia Barbour and her husband William of Harrisburg, PA; Thomas Ryan and his wife Roxanne of Clayton, NJ; Mary Cressman of Landenburg, PA; Robert Ryan and his wife Ann of Flourtown, PA; and Francis Ryan of Halifax, PA.

In addition, she leaves numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many lifelong friends.

We would like to thank and acknowledge the dedicated PCT’s who cared for Jo-Anne. In addition, we would also like to recognize the community service programs and Aphasia research conducted by Dr. Jacquie Kurland and Polly Stokes of the Brain Research on Chronic Aphasia Lab at UMass Amherst.

Visiting hours for Jo-Anne will be held on Thursday, November 17th from 5:00-8:00pm in Ludlow Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will then be held by the family on Friday, Nov. 18th at Nathan Bill's Restaurant 110 Island Pond Rd Springfield, MA 01118 from 12:00pm-4:00pm with the sharing of a special toast and memories of her life at 2:00pm.
