Obituary for Lavalier Goncalves
Lavalier Goncalves , 91, of Ludlow passed away peacefully on June 8, 2017. Born in Travassos da Cha, Portugal to the late Dionisio and Isabel Goncalves, he came to the United States in 1953 settling in Ludlow and worked for over 30 years at Bruschi Brothers Construction company until his retirement in 1987.  He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, he loved to play cards with anyone that would play and he enjoyed working in his garden and times spent with his family he would always be ready for a kiss on his cheek. Lavalier was the beloved husband of the late Ilda Goncalves who predeceased him in 2013. He leaves his loving children Dennis Goncalves and his wife Matilde of Westerly, Rhode Island, and Isabel Martins of Ludlow. His dear grandchildren Steve Martins and wife Sharon, Jeffrey Martins and wife Melissa, Lauren Maheras and husband Austin and Matthew Goncalves and wife Meredith: cherished great grandchildren Christian, Adrian, Grace, Sophia, Jaxson, Greyson, Ethan: his caring sisters Lucia Fernandes and husband Manuel, Maria Fontoura and husband Antonio, and Rosa Fontoura and husband Ilidio: his in laws Arminda Dias, and the late Idalina Goncalves and John Goncalves he was also predeceased by his brother Alexander Goncalves and wife Rosa, Lucinda Alves and husband Domingos and Laurinda Justo and husband Domingos.  He also leaves several nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will take place at 9AM on Tuesday, June 13th from the Ludlow Funeral Home, 432 East Street, with Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 10AM followed by burial at St. Aloysius Cemetery. Calling hours on Monday, June 12th from 4-7PM.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Lavalier’s name can be made to a charity of one’s choice.
