Obituary for Maria Gloria (Dias) Portelada
Maria da Gloria (Dias) Portelada, 67, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family.  Born in Travassos da Cha, Portugal, she came to Ludlow in 1970 and proudly became a United States Citizen on November 4, 2016.  She worked for 16 years at Winkler Flexible Factory in Ludlow and was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, In her spare time, she loved gardening, her plants, shopping, praying, and actively participating as a proud member of the Rays of Hope Foundation.  Maria was the beloved wife of the late Porfirio Portelada, who predeceased her in 1986.  She leaves her loving children Maria Luiza StMarie and husband Ray, of Ludlow, Manuel Portelada and wife Melissa, of Ludlow, and Alexandre Portelada and fiancee Jessica Alves, of 16 Acres; her cherished grandchildren who she adored Kyle StMarie and wife Brittany, of Wales, Brianna StMarie, of Ludlow, and Anthony Portelada, of Ludlow; her devoted companion and caretaker of 20 years, Antonio Tome; her siblings Joao Dias and wife Arminda, of Ludlow and Maria Goncalves, Fernando Pires, Acacio Pires, Deolinda Cal, and Elvira Pires, all in Portugal; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.  Maria’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to the D’Amour Cancer Care Center, Dr. Leslie Howard and her nurse Beth, Baystate Hospice nurses, especially Maime and Lucy, for all of the care and comfort that they provided to her and the family as well as the staff of Orchard Medical Associates and Dr Jose Vinagre for his continued support and perseverance.  Funeral services for Maria will be held on Tuesday, May 9th at 10:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery.  Visiting hours are on Monday from 4:00-7:00pm.
