Obituary for Paul Lopes
Paul Lopes, 46, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2017 surrounded by the love of his family. Paul was a lifelong Ludlow resident where he was a 1988 graduate of Ludlow High School, a member of the Unity A.C., Ludlow Country Club, and Polish American Citizen Club. He worked for many years at Soccer City in Wilbraham and most recently for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts DYS. Paul was an avid sports fan with a lifelong passion for soccer playing for the Ludlow H.S. Lions and various local leagues. He was also associated with coaching in the early 1990's at Ludlow High School, Cathedral High School, and Minnechaug High School. As the Assistant Coach at Minnechaug High School from 1996 until 2007, they won Western Mass Titles in 2005 and 2007. Also involved with the PVSSL, he and Joe Saraiva coached the Lusitano Whites to 3 titles with one being an undefeated season. Paul loved all sports and played volleyball with "The Joes" for many years. He was also an avid fan of the Boston Bruins, S.D. Chargers, and NY Mets, as well as the Sporting Soccer Team. In his adult years, Paul developed a passion for golf and played in many area golf tournaments. He also enjoyed traveling on golf trips with his friends, especially twice a year to Myrtle Beach. Paul was the beloved son of Jose Lopes and his late wife Maria (Amaral) Lopes, who predeceased him in January 2016; a loving brother to Lina Dias and late husband John, of Ludlow; an adoring uncle to his nephew and Godchild Stephen Dias, niece Cassandra Dias, and niece and Godchild Katherine Dias; a cherished nephew of Idalina DaSilva and husband Joe, Artur Amaral and wife Fernanda, Odete Pereira and husband Joe, and Marcelina Andrade and husband Artur; and also leaves his Godchild Bryan Amaral, many loving cousins, extended family members including the Pina family, and many friends who have been by his side. Visiting hours are on Thursday, Aug. 17th from 4:00-7:00pm at Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services are on Friday, Aug. 18th at 8:00 from the funeral home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
