Obituary for Richard "Dick" McDaniel
Richard (Dick) McDaniel, 86, of Ludlow died on Monday, August 28, 2017.  Born on July 11, 1931 in Cleveland Ohio, he was the son of Mary Elizabeth Wilson and Joseph Monroe McDaniel.  He served 20 years in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1969, upon retiring he worked for Stevens Paper Mill in Westfield and the Belchertown State School as a Carpenter retiring in 1991. Residing in Ludlow most of his life he was a communicant of Christ The King Church. Dick was also a member of the Melody Boys and the New Good Time Singers. Dick loved to sing and love the outdoors he was an avid hunter and fisherman, also taking part in the Senior Olympics in Archery. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 42 years Marie Georgette Gauthier,  his sister June and brothers Edward, Joseph and James. Dick is survived by his son Richard McDaniel and his wife Debbie of Palmer, Scott of Ludlow, Dr. Steve McDaniel DDS of Ludlow, two daughters Marie Bellisario of Oregon and Valerie Methot of Florida; seven grandchildren and loved by many great-grandchildren, his sister Joyce Smith of Ohio and several caring nieces and nephew's. Dick is also survived by his significant other of 23 years, Dolores “Del” Gravel of Wilbraham and her 3 children A.J. Gravel, Dianne Demers and Gisele Monson. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Richards caregivers, Charli and Petra, for the wonderful support and care they gave to him.  Funeral services will be held for Dick on Friday, September 1, 2017 from the Ludlow Funeral Home.  Visiting hours are from 8:45am-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am in Christ The King Church followed by rights of committal with Military Honors at Island Pond Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wildlife Fund of America in his memory.
