Obituary for Alexander "Alex" Adam
ARTICLE ORIGIONALLY APPERING IN THE 1940’S
WINS BRONZE STAR: Courage and coolness displayed by Pfc. Alexander Adam, of 12 Portland Street, Feeding Hills, during action in France last September have won for him the Bronze Star. The accompanying citation indicates that Pfc. Adam remained at his radio, thus keeping his battalion commander informed at an important time and refused to seek cover in order that he might use his machine gun against the approaching enemy. Pfc. Adam, with the third army, is still overseas awaiting discharge because of service points. He has been in the Army since July, 1941, and was formerly employed Blair Manufacturing Company. He is the son of Edward Adam of the Feeding Hills address.

Alexander O. “Alex” Adam, 89, of Ludlow, was called to Heaven on June 3, 2009. Born in Feeding Hills, son of the late Edward and Bertha Adam, he spent his early years in Agawam and Springfield, but spent most of his life in Ludlow. Alexander was a United States Army Veteran proudly serving his country during WWII in the 52ND Armored Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division and was a decorated veteran receiving the Bronze Star, Good Conduct and American Defense Service Medals, African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and Distinguished Unit Badge. He worked for over 33 years as a beater engineer for the Southworth Paper Co. before his retirement. He was also an avid Bruins and Red Sox fan and enjoyed gardening, fishing, and feeding and watching birds. Alexander was the beloved husband of the late Lucille (Willard) Adam, who predeceased him in 2006; a loving father to Linda Patterson and her husband Brian, Cynthia Panico and her husband Edward, Gary Adam and his wife Carolyn, and Wayne Adam and his wife Susan, all of Ludlow, Dean Adam and his wife Teresa of Belchertown and Carol-Ann Magersupp, of Maryland; a dear brother to the late Freida, Ann and Eva; a cherished grandfather to Lisa and her husband Steve Sambor, Christine, Heather, Carrie, Gennelle, Randy, Michael, Brian, and the late Carolyn and great-grandfather to Nicholas, Karley, and Reagan, Sophia, Louis and Ryann, of Florida, and the late Ryder. He also leaves many other loving family members and dear friends. A celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00am at Ludlow Funeral Home followed by burial with Military Honors in Island Pond Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 9-11am.
