Obituary for Alexander D. Alves
Alexander D. Alves, 56, of Ludlow, died suddenly on May 5, 2014. Born in Padornelos, Portugal, son of the late Domingos and Lucinda Alves, he lived most of his life in Ludlow where he was a 1977 graduate of Ludlow H.S. He then received his accounting degree from Thomas College and worked for many years in the insurance industry. He was an accomplished soccer player, having won a state championship with LHS, was named an All American at Thomas College, and was selected as 1 of 20 players nationwide to represent the U.S. at the World University Games in 1979. He also played with the Lusitano’s and the Old Timers Club in Ludlow. Alex loved to read and spend time at the library, he was an avid sports fan, especially of the UCONN Huskies and the NY Yankees, and was also a longtime proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. Alex was the beloved father of Michael Alves and wife Vanessa, of Dorchester, and David Alves, of Bristol, CT; a loving brother to Domingos Alves and wife Pearl Ann, of Ludlow, Dennis Alves and wife Lauren, of Ashland, Isabel Nogueira and husband Abilio, of Ludlow, Teresa Chaves and husband Manuel, of Ludlow, the late Antonio Dias Alves and his wife Maria Augusta, of Wilbraham, and the late Americo Dias Alves and his wife Helena, of Longmeadow; an adored nephew of his special uncle Lavalier, and aunts Rosa, Maria, and Lucia; and also leaves several cherished nieces and nephews and their families, extended family members, and dear friends. Funeral services will be on Friday, May 9, 2014 at 9:30am from Ludlow Funeral Home followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30am in Our Lady of Fatima Church. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm.Â

They prefer house plants, outdoor garden plants, or take home arrangements as there will be no cemetery service following the funeral liturgy.
