Obituary for Alice Joyce Hill
Alice Joyce Hill, 97, a longtime resident of West Springfield, died on 11/23/2022. She was born in Hinsdale, N.H., the daughter of David and Florence (Howe) Stewart. She was the widow of Frank Hill and was married for 52 years before his death in 1994. She leaves her sister, Josephine Bateman; children, Brian Hill (Susan), Richard Hill (Margaret); grandchildren, Allison Alaoui (Rachid), Kristen Smith (Phil), Craig Hill (Mary Ellen O’Meara-Hill, Nathan Hill, Ryan Hill, Megan Christensen, and great grandchildren, Leila Alaoui, Omar Alaoui, Amelia O’Meara-Hill, Luke Hill. She was pre-deceased by siblings Mildred Stewart, Corrine Bousquet, Henry “Red” Stewart, Lurena “Nettie” Reed, and Florence Hilda Lemay She worked for many years in the hosiery departments at Forbes and Wallace (1963-1976) and Steigers (1976-1987) in downtown Springfield. She had fond memories of Hinsdale, Uncle Clarence’s farm, 76 summers at Ashmere Lake, and family trips to her sister in Oregon. She enjoyed baking, gardening, and reading detective mysteries. She loved the annual Stewart family reunion, trips to Riverside Park with Hilda and all the kids, Tom Brady until 2020, weekly calls from her sister and nieces, Christmas day, and especially her family. Burial will be private. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
