Obituary for Alice Mae Costa
Alice Mae Costa, age 86, passed away August 5th, 2021, at Baystate Medical Center from natural causes.
Alice was born July 12th, 1935, in Ludlow, MA. She graduated from Cathedral High School. She married her husband Albert Costa on September 6th, 1958. Her passion was her family; she never missed a birthday, anniversary, or graduation. I can’t remember how many times I’d watch her sitting at her kitchen table writing sentiments into cards and making sure to remind my grandfather to take them to the post office. She loved spending time with her sisters. The rest of the family would joke about “the sisters” being so close; they were always “taking a run down” to visit with each other. She was an avid reader, something she made sure to pass on to me. When I was young she would read to me, and as I got older we would pass books back and forth. She valued her community; anytime we went to Big Y or Randall’s she would see people she knew and chat with them. She volunteered at the library, and at the polls during elections. She loved to laugh and sit in the sun.
Alice is survived by her husband, Albert Costa, of Ludlow; their three children Steve and his wife Denise, Paula, and Debbie; their grandchildren, Kimmi, Christi, Lynn, Josh, Sami, TJ, and Darielle; their great-grandchildren, Kailey, Bella, Beau, and Dani. She is also survived by her sisters Lorraine Ney of Ludlow and Joyce Gregoire of Monson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Bella Williamson, and her sister Eileen Pereira of Ludlow. Alice’s wake will be held at Ludlow Funeral Home on August 13, 2021, from 11:30am-1pm, and her Memorial Service will begin at 1pm. In lieu of flowers it was the wish of Alice's family that donations be made in her memory to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at www.cff.org.
