After a long battle with Lung Disease, and a short battle with Covid-19, Alice S. Mendes, 80 yrs old, passed away comfortably and peacefully at Mercy Medical Center. Alice was born in Ludlow on Dec 14th, 1943, one of five children born to John and Josephine (Twarog) Bojan. She was a lifelong communicant of both Our Lady of Fatima and Christ the King churches. Alice graduated from Ludlow High School in 1961, was also a graduate of S.T.C.C, and became an Operating Room Technician for a number of years. Years later, she became an office clerk at Smith & Wesson. She was married to James Mendes in 1961 and remained living in Ludlow. Alice retired in the late 1990s and began splitting her residency between their home in Ludlow and in Hernando, FL. Alice enjoyed being with family and friends both locally and in Florida, and especially visits from her grand and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years James, parents John and Josephine, sisters Jean Wyrostek and Elizabeth Grout, brother Teddy, and youngest son Todd. She is survived by sons Dean (wife Pamela) and Mark, sister Helen Wojna, grandchildren Christian (wife Alexandria), Bryanna, and Cory, great grandchildren Isabelle Alice and Carter James, along with many nephews, nieces, in-laws and friends. The family wishes to extend gratitude to the entire staff and nurses at Mercy Medical Center for their exceptional care. Future services will be private.
