Obituary for Alice "Titi" (Mendes) Jorge
Alice “Titi“ (Mendes) Jorge, 86, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2011. Born in Ludlow, daughter of the late Joseph and Diolinda (Pereira) Mendes, she was a lifelong resident, a 1942 graduate of Ludlow High School and communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. Alice worked for 47 years at Ludlow Manufacturing in the accounting department before retiring and was a member of the Portuguese American Citizens Club, the Daughters of Isabella, and the Portuguese Women’s Club. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and crocheted many afghans, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Alice was the beloved wife of the late Fermino Jorge, who predeceased her in 1988; a loving mother to Joseph Jorge and wife Cindy, of Ludlow; a devoted grandmother and “Titi” to Kara Jorge, Kimberly Fraga and husband Mike, and Joseph Jorge Jr. and wife Jenna, all of Ludlow; a cherished sister to Arminda DaSilva and husband Manuel, Beatrice Jorge and husband John, all of Ludlow, and the late Yvonne Chapman and her late husband Arthur; and also leaves many devoted nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Alice’s family wishes to extend a special “thank you” to the Ludlow town nurses; Linda and Marianne, and also to Mary Ann Kochanek for their wonderful care and support. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 24, 2011 at 8:30 from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian burial at 9:30am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Sunday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Titi’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, Ma. 01104.
