Obituary for Alvah O. Ericksberg, Jr.
Alvah O. Ericksberg, Jr., 87, of Ludlow, passed away on September 27, 2014. Born in Springfield, Alvah was a 1944 graduate of Tech High School and a United States Air Force veteran proudly serving his country during WWII. Â He lived for many years in Springfield before moving to Ludlow in 1955 where he was a communicant of the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church and currently of St. Elizabeth Parish. Â Alvah was employed at Monsanto for 35 years and enjoyed fishing, boating, stamp collecting, target shooting, the outdoors, and especially supporting Ludlow Football, and was also a ham radio operator for many years. Â Upon his retirement in 1982, he and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the country and Europe.
Alvah was the beloved husband of 67 years to Eva "Theresa" ( LaBelle) Ericksberg; a loving father to Kenneth Ericksberg and wife Pam, of S.C.; Carl Ericksberg and wife Karen, of West Springfield; Terry Houghton and husband David Spinney, of Louisiana, and the late Alan Ericksberg and his widow Diane, of S.C.,; cherished grandfather to Jamie, Amber, Richie, Tracy, Chad, and Maureen; adoring great-grandfather to Riley, Mary, Casey, Kristen, Megan, and Mia; great-great grandfather to Madelyn Grace; dear brother of the late Stanley Ericksberg; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Alvah's memory to the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org) Â 480 Pleasant Street Watertown, MA 02472.
Funeral services for Alvah will be on Friday, Oct. 3rd at 10:15am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Elizabeth Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.  Visitation will precede the funeral from 9:15-10:15am
