Obituary for Americo J. Sousa
Colonel Americo J. Sousa, Massachusetts State Police (Ret.), passed away on October 25, 2020 in Naples Florida. Born in Ludlow Massachusetts in 1927 he lived in Wilbraham Massachusetts and wintered in Naples Florida for the last 21 years. A graduate of Ludlow High School class of 1945, he was a veteran of World War II serving his country honorably in the United States Navy. Following military service he worked for the U.S. Postal Service until 1952 when he joined the Massachusetts State Police. He served for 25 years retiring in 1977 with the rank of Colonel. He was a member of the Chicopee Elks, American Legion of Wilbraham, Gremio Lusitano Club of Ludlow and the Massachusetts State Police Retirees Association. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Cecilia (Zilewicz) Sousa and his 4 children, Steve, (Katherine) Sousa, John, (Patricia) Sousa, Ann Marie (Robert) Browne and Christine Sousa as well as 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Raul and Maria (Concaico) Sousa. He also leaves a sister Irene Goncalves. Funeral services for Colonel Sousa will be held on Saturday, November 7th, 2020 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Public visiting hours are Saturday morning from 10:00-11:30am, his burial with Naval Military Honors will be held at 12:30pm at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Indian Orchard and is open to the public.
