Obituary for Americo Palatino
Americo (Mike) Palatino, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Born and raised in Ludlow, MA, he was the son of Joaquim and Grace Palatino. After graduating from Ludlow High School and the Stockbridge School of Agriculture, Stockbridge, MA, he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was the President and co-owner of Daylight Dairy and Jane Alden Dairy Stores. He later was the owner/operator of the Double D Dairy Bar in Ludlow. He was a founding member of the Luso Federal Credit Union and served on the original Board of Directors. He was a long-time parishioner of St. Elizabeth parish and served as a Eucharist Minister for many years. Mike was also a member of the Ludlow Country Club.
He was married for 58 years to the love of his life, Marie Cecile (Lavoie). Besides his wife, he leaves his children: Lisa Pereira and her husband John, with whom he lived; Laurie Catarino and her husband Joe; Michael and his husband Michael Mettey; Mark and his wife Kim; and Amy Ryczek and her husband Stan. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Tiffany Pereira Coelho; John Pereira; Jocelyn Thibault and her husband Mike; Tony and Angela Catarino; Sean, Matt and Molly Palatino; Mark Palatino and his wife Kristen; Joshua Palatino and Ashley; Jessica Wurszt and her husband Andrew; Cheyenne, Jake and McKenna Ryczek. He also leaves six beloved great-grandchildren Dominic, Niko and Isabella Coelho; Bauer and Paisley Palatino; and Julian Wurszt. Mike also leaves his daughter-in-law Kathleen Casagrande and Joe Coelho.
Mike was predeceased by his sisters Mary Saloio and Alice Lavoie, and his brothers Jackie and John Palatino. He leaves his siblings Irene Saloio, A. Richard Palatino, and Rosemary Pillsbury and her husband Frank, and many extended family members and friends. Funeral services for Americo will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth Church followed by burial with Military Honors in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
