Angelo (Tex) S. Teixeira, September 15, 1928 – August 26, 2024, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Angelo was born in Ludlow, MA to Marieta (Almeida) and Antonio Teixeira. He is predeceased by the love of his life Priscilla (Ostrander)his wife of 62 years. He is also predeceased by his and Priscilla’s newborn son as well as his brothers Louis S., Joseph S., and James S. He leaves his children Paul A. and wife Debra, Louisa A. Bushey and husband Ronald, and Gary J. and wife Cynthia. He also leaves brothers Antonio S. and George S. as well as grandchildren Kathryn, Gary, Jr., Claire, Molly, Alexander, Jonathan, great grandchild Trey and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tex was a graduate of Ludlow High School where he was an outstanding athlete playing soccer, basketball, and baseball. He and his brothers, James and Joseph, were inducted into the first class of Ludlow High Schools Hall of Fame. After high school he attended American International College (AIC) on a scholarship to play basketball and received a BA in Education and 2 master's degrees. He was forever grateful to Coach Chevalier for providing the opportunity to attend AIC. He returned to Ludlow to begin his teaching career and also coached the soccer team to Western Mass titles in 1950, 1951, and 1953. He played for the Ludlow Lusitanos and the New York Brookhattens of the American Soccer League. In 1972 he was named to the Lusitanos 50th Anniversary Dream Team as a center halfback. He was an avid tennis player and was a member of the Field Club in Longmeadow for many years. He played doubles tennis in many Baystate Senior Games as well as in tournaments across the country. Even though he had challenges casting a fishing line he loved to fish on Cape Cod and the Connecticut shore (his sons finally gave up on trying to improve his casting technique). He was very active in Western Mass High School Soccer and was awarded the Larry Briggs Award by the Pioneer Valley Soccer Officials. Briggs helped to initiate the Western Mass Soccer Tournament. He began his public teaching career after graduating from AIC teaching science and mathematics in his hometown of Ludlow where he met Priscilla who was a music teacher in the Ludlow school system. Both of them soon ended up teaching in the Longmeadow School System. He was science department chair at the High School and president of the Longmeadow Education Association before being appointed as assistant principal of Glenbrook Middle School. In 1979 he was appointed principal of the High School and served in this role until 1989. He retired from public education at this time but quickly became an adjunct professor at Western New England College. He was an incorporator, director and first President of the Forest Park Zoological Society. He was a member of the Massachusetts National Guard and reached the rank of Master Sergeant. His greatest joy was spending time with his family at many Teixeira family get togethers. He loved the Cape and enjoyed sailing with his great friends, John and Helen Apone, as well as enjoying days on the West Dennis beach with his children and grandchildren. Much to the dismay of the lifeguards he was always prepared to cast to schools of bluefish and would talk them into allowing one last cast. He was a very good poker player and played up until recently with a gang of former Longmeadow school teachers. He was a devout Roman Catholic and attended Mass at St. Michael’s in East Longmeadow. Tex was very proud of his Portuguese heritage and always welcomed a conversation in the beautiful language. Angelo, Dad, Uncle Tex, and Vovo will be missed beyond words. Say hi to mom for all of us. Funeral services for Angelo will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024 from the Ludlow Funeral Home.
