Obituary for Anibal Pires
Anibal Pires, 74, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Brandim, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jasmim Goncalves Lopes and Benta Pires and proudly served in the Portuguese Army in Mozambique. Anibal immigrated to the US and settled in Ludlow where he was a self employed mason, a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and routing for Porto; but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Anibal was the beloved husband of 50 years to Virginia (Alves) Pires; a loving father to Antonio Pires and wife Christine, and Ana Maria Serisser and husband Faycal, all of Ludlow; a devoted and proud Avo to Malik, Emma, Joseph, and Francesca; a dear brother to Gloria Pires Tavares and late husband Manuel, Manuel Pires Lopes and wife Emma, the late Maximino Pires and late wife Alzira, the late Maria Pires, and the late Jose Pires Lopes and his widow Belmira, all of Portugal; and also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends both here and in Portugal. Anibal’s family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Marsh, Dr. Alsina, and all of the nurses and staff at the D’Amour Cancer Care Center for their exceptional care and compassion. Visiting hours for Anibal will be held on Friday, April 26th from 4:00-7:00pm in Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services are on Saturday at 9:00am from the funeral home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anibal’s memory to D’Amour Cancer Care Center 3350 Main St. Springfield, Ma. 01199.
