Obituary for Anna (da Costa) Surreira
Anna (da Costa) Surreira, 93, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2014 surrounded by the love of her family. Born in New Bedford, she lived most of her life in Ludlow where she was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and member of the Portuguese American Citizens Club. Anna worked for many years at Mayfair Mills before her retirement and she loved to crochet and cook, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her loving family. Anna was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Goncalves Surreira who predeceased her in 1990; a loving mother to John, Diogo, Manuel, Joseph, and David Surreira, all of Ludlow; Mrs. Maria Crowley, of Sturbridge, Mrs. Sally Palatino, of Ludlow, and the late Albert and Abel Surreira; a devoted grandmother of 18, a cherished great-grandmother and great-great grandmother; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. Anna’s family wishes to express a special thank you to the nurses, aids, and entire staff of Life Care Center of Wilbraham, and to her Personal Healthcare Aid Cheryl, for the exceptional care and devotion that they provided her.
Funeral services for Anna will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Thursday from 5:00-7:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna’s memory to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society PO Box 4527 New York, NY 10163, Our Lady of Fatima Shrine Fund 438 Winsor St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056 or Shriner’s Hospital for Children 516 Carew St. Springfield, Ma. 01104.
