Obituary for Antonio A. Chelo
Antonio Chelo, 49, of Ludlow, died peacefully on July 7, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Tony fought a long and courageous battle with cancer.  He was predeceased by his father João Vaz Chelo Jr. in 1990, and is survived by his devoted mother Lucinda (Aleixo) Chelo.  Born in Santo Andre, Portugal, he lived most of his life in Ludlow. Tony was a 1978 graduate of Ludlow High School and a former communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He was also a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club and prior to his illness was employed at Ludlow Construction. Tony was an avid outdoorsman, and had a passion for soccer, hunting, playing pool and bowling, as well as spending time with his friends and family. Tony was fun-spirited in nature, loved to laugh, and took pride in playing practical jokes on those close to him. These were times he always cherished. Besides his mother he leaves his loving son Christopher Chelo of Ludlow; his beloved fiancée Cristina Miller and her daughter Melissa Miller of Ludlow; caring brother to João Chelo & his fiancée Candida Ferreira, Augusto Chelo & his wife Grace, Anna Martins & her husband Tony, Manuel Chelo, Saul Chelo & his girlfriend Dorena Roulston all of Ludlow; Tony will be missed by his loving niece Nancy Coelho & her husband Danny, nephews Jason Chelo & Kevin Chelo, niece & god-daughter Jennifer Martins & her fiancée Frank Estrada, niece Alexia Chelo, nephew Nicholas Chelo, niece Beatriz Chelo & grand-nephew Alexander Coelho; also several aunts, uncles and cousins as well as many friends throughout the community. The family would like to recognize Doctors Peter Enzinger and David Ting as well as the medical and nursing staff at the Dana Farber Institute and Mercy Medical Center for their exceptional care during Tony’s illness. Funeral services will be held on Saturday July 11th, 2009 at 8:30am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial beginning at 9:30am in St. John the Baptist Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 5:00-8:00pm.
