Obituary for Antonio Marques
António de Jesus Marques, 89, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2023 at BMC, with his loving family by his side. Born in Faia, Guarda, Portugal, to the late António Marques and Josefina de Jesus where he helped his parents cultivate the farmlands. He eventually immigrated to the US with his late wife and children on April 25, 1970 and settled in Ludlow, where he was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and a member of the Grémio Lusitano Club. António worked at Jahn Foundry in Springfield before retiring in 1999. He was an avid soccer fan and his love for his favorite team Benfica was noted by everyone who knew him. He enjoyed watching RTP and spending time with his family whom he loved very much. He was very proud of all his children´s accomplishments and enjoyed his conversations with his daughter Maria Helena in Portugal and despite the distance, they were very close. António was the beloved husband of 64 years to the late Maria Joaquina Lopes Marques; a loving father to José Marques and wife Tina, Horacio Marques and Leonel Marques, all of Ludlow, and his daughter Maria Helena Marques and her partner José Manuel Alexandre of Portugal; a devoted grandfather to Justina, Michelle, James, Marissa, Madalyn, and the late Justin who passed away in 2020; and had 2 great grand-daughters. António also leaves his siblings Maria da Glória Marques and Maria de Lurdes Marques, of Portugal. Many nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends in Ludlow, Portugal and Argentina. Sadly he was predeceased by his brother Joaquim Marques and sister Leopoldina Marques of Portugal. Funeral services for Antonio will be held on Thursday, September 28th from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visitation is Thursday morning from 8:45-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Mass celebrated at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
