Obituary for Antonio Marteleira Canoa
Antonio Marteleira Canoa, 78, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lourinha, Portugal, he was the son of the late Luis Manuel Canoa and Maria De Jesus (Marteleira) Canoa. Antonio immigrated to the United States in 1971 and settled in Ludlow where he raised his family. He worked for many years at Randall's Farms and Nunes Construction and enjoyed spending time at the Gremio Lusitano Club. Antonio’s many hobbies included playing cards, hunting, gardening, fishing, and he was a big Benfica fan, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids.
Antonio was the beloved husband of 55 years to Ivete De Jesus De Sousa Canoa. He was a devoted father and grandfather to Debbie Canoa Falfan, her husband Hiram, and their children Ezra and Valentina; Danny Canoa, his wife Lily, and their children Jake and Justin; Jimmy Canoa, his wife Alisha, and their children Alexis and Abby; and Joel Canoa, his wife Donna, and their children Sam Sprague and Jenna.
He was a cherished brother to Odette Sousa and her husband Horacio, and a loving uncle to nieces Sonia Jaworski and her children Johnny and Evan, and Sandy Auclair and her daughter Trista. He is also predeceased by his brother Victor Canoa, his wife Esparanca, and their children, Liz Canoa, Luis Canoa and predecesased Fatima Vieira, and her spouse Paul and their children Victoria and Matthew.
Antonio leaves behind many loving extended family members and dear friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Visiting hours for Antonio are on Sunday, November 23rd from 4:00-6:00pm at Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 24th at 10:00am from the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
