Born in Padornelos, Portugal to the late Joao and Maria (Oliveira) Goncalves, he has lived in Ludlow since 1976 . He was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, and served in the Portuguese Army in Mozambique from 1968-1970. He worked for over 25 years at the former Eastern Container, now Smurfit Stone, until his retirement in 2011. He was an avid gardener and a skilled carpenter happily lending his talents to help his family and friends when needed. Antonio was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and he truly loved his family and cherished the time spent with his adoring granddaughters, who will miss him greatly. He was the beloved husband of 41 years to Maria Adriana (Juliano) Goncalves of Ludlow; loving father to Isabel Goncalves Santos and her husband Adriano and Lisa Goncalves Urban, both of Ludlow; adoring grandfather to Kayla, Maegan and Alexis; brother of Joaquim Goncalves and wife Candida of France, Laurinda Crespo and husband Augusto of Ludlow, Maria Baltazar and husband Joaquim, Albina Alves and husband Antonio, and Ana Afonso, all of Portugal; his brother-in-law Antonio Juliano and his wife Gloria of Ludlow and sister-in-law Elena Alves of Wilbraham; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law in France and Portugal. He also leaves several loving nieces and nephews, both in Ludlow and Europe, and his many friends throughout the community. Sadly, he was predeceased by his sister Teresa Alves and his son-in-law Jeffrey M. Urban. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday November 13, 2012 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Monday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
