Obituary for Antonio Rua
Antonio Goncalves Rua, 78, of Ludlow passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday September 10, 2014. Born in Montalegre Portugal to the late Jose and Angelina (Nogueira) Rua he immigrated to the United States in 1966 and has lived in Ludlow for the past 46 years. Antonio worked for over 30 years at the former Jahn Foundry in Springfield and enjoyed Gardening, tending to his fruit trees and winemaking. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage, serving in the Portuguese Army and GUARDA , he was also an avid fan of F.C. Porto. Antonio leaves his beloved wife of 54 years, Irene (Cabeleira) Rua of Ludlow; Loving sons Jose Luis Rua and wife Helena, Jose Antonio Rua and wife Kelly both of Ludlow and Mario Rua and wife Wendy of Feeding Hills; adored grandchildren, Amanda Methe and husband Jared and Jonathan, Emily, Allison, Christian, Gabriel and Timothy Rua. Sadly Antonio was predeceased by his 2 brothers and 4 sisters in Portugal. Antonio’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff at Wingate at Wilbraham for the exceptional care they provided to him during his stay there.
Funeral services celebrating Antonio’s life will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 9:00am from Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
