Obituary for Antonio "Tony" Carvalho, Jr.
Surrounded by his loving family, Antonio 'Tony' Carvalho Jr., 87, passed away at home on January 31, 2022 in Ludlow. Tony was born April 9, 1934 in Boticas, Portugal, immigrating to the US and settling in Ludlow, MA. Tony retired from Dart/Kraft Industries/Rexcel as Special Project Engineer and Supervisor. After retirement, Tony continued working at the Sunshine Arts Studio. Tony was extremely proud of becoming an American citizen.
Tony was a well respected, quiet and humble man. Tony enjoyed bowling and golf and was also a fan of all New England Sports. But since his childhood, his heart and allegiance lay with Sporting Lisbon FC. He was ecstatic when they won their many championships. He coached the Gremio Lusitanos and Rexcel teams. But he had even greater joy in watching his grandsons succeed in their own soccer endeavors. It was always a joy for him to discuss soccer news and watch games with them. He got to watch the recent January 29th Taca de Liga Cup win with his three grandsons.
Tony was certified from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Project Management, Project Improvement and Advanced Maintenance. He received additional certifications from Western New England College in Preventative Maintenance and in Machine Shop Practices from Springfield Trade High School.
Tony was predeceased by his father, Antonio G. Carvalho, Sr., mother, Teresa (De Jesus) Carvalho, brothers Domingos 'Dick' Goncalves and Joseph Carvalho, sister Mary Queiroga and his nephew Charlie Queiroga.
He is survived by the love of his life of 63 years, his wife Teresa (Guedes) Carvalho, his pride and joy, daughter Diane Choquette (David), sister Aldina 'Tina' Fernandes of Portugal, grandsons Anthony Choquette (Katy Davis), Christopher Choquette (Mary) and Michael Choquette (Carrie Madden)
along with his great granddaughter Ruth Everly Choquette. He also leaves behind his nephew Joseph Queiroga (Jackie) and nieces Tillie Condon (Matt), Teresa Mayne and Alda Luvera.
Tony was predeceased by his sister-in-law Dina (Guedes) Daggett and her husband Richie. Tony also leaves behind sister-in-laws and their families, Mary (Guedes) Fontoura (Armando), Elda (Guedes) Myles (Owen) and Fatima (Guedes) Paiva (Tony).
He also leaves behind many beloved extended family and friends.
Tony touched many lives. To have known him was a blessing, He will be forever missed but he will never be forgotten.
The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff of the Baystate Wesson 4th Floor unit and Trinity Health Care Home Hospice for all of their love and care. A special thank you goes out to Reverend Gary Grimes.
