Obituary for Antonio 'Tony' N. Mendes
Antonio "Tony" N. Mendes, 86, of Ludlow, died peacefully on April 28, 2013. Born in Ludlow, son of the late Alberto and Barbara (Nunes) Mendes, he was a lifelong resident and communicant of the Our Lady of Fatima Church and the former St. Mary of the Assumption Church. Antonio was a United States Navy veteran proudly serving his country during WWII and was employed for many years at Westinghouse and Allis Chalmers before retiring. Antonio was a member of the Golden Senior Club and Men‘s Breakfast Club of the Ludlow Senior Center, the Portuguese American Citizens Club, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. He also loved to tinker and was a jack of all trades with the talent and natural ability to be able to fix anything; but his greatest joy in life was spending time with his loving family. Antonio was the beloved husband of the late Elena "Helen" (Pereira) Mendes, who predeceased him in 2001; a loving father to Toni-Marie Mancuso and husband Salvatore, and Elena Marion and husband Paul, all of Ludlow; a cherished grandfather to Ryan Marion and wife Amanda, Jason Mancuso and wife Renee, and the late Salvatore Mancuso Jr., who predeceased him in 1978; an adoring great-grandfather to Antonio and Luke; a dear brother to Albert Mendes, of FL, Barbara Hirnyk, of Ludlow, Manuel Mendes of Indiana, and James Mendes, of Ludlow; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the entire staff and nurses of Wing Memorial Hospital and Wingate at East Longmeadow for their exceptional care. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at 10:00am from Ludlow funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. David Darcy at 11:00am in St. Cecilia’s Parish followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Monday from 5-8pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Antonio’s memory to Friends of the Ludlow Senior Center 37 Chestnut St. Ludlow, Ma. 01056
