Obituary for Antonio "Tut" Mathias Jr.
Antonio ”Tut” Mathias Jr., 83, of Ludlow, was called to Heaven on March 9, 2009.  Born in Ludlow, son of the late Antonio and Anna (Moutinho) Mathias, he was a lifelong resident and faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.  Antonio was a United States Navy Veteran proudly serving his country during WWII.  He worked for 19 years for Bruschi Bros. Construction and then for many years at Smith and Wesson before his retirement.  He was also a member of the Ludlow Lodge of Elks, Gremio Lusitano Club, Portuguese American Citizens Club, and was a devoted New England Patriots fan.  Antonio was a beloved husband of 55 years to Margaret (Almeida) Mathias; a loving father to Paul Mathias and his wife Cheryl, of Plymouth, and Debbie Gates and her husband Brian, of Ludlow; a cherished grandfather to Nicholas and Christopher and Caitlyn; a beloved great-grandfather to Kaiden; a dear brother of Joseph Mathias, of Agawam, Arthur Mathias, of Selma, CA, and the late John Mathias, Aurora Carvalho, and Mabel Swiecanski.  Antonio also leaves many other loving family members and dear friends.  Funeral services will be on Wednesday morning at 10am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial with Military Honors in Island Pond Cemetery.  Visitation will precede the funeral on Wednesday from 9-10am.
