Obituary for Armando Rodrigues
On Friday, December 21, 2012, an angel was called home. Armando passed away surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Born in Padrela, Portugal, he immigrated to the United States in 1961. He was predeceased by his parents, Izaltino Rodrigues and Maria (Sousa) Rodrigues, his mother-in-law Ana Maria DaSilva and his princess Zoe. Armando was the former owner of SMS Construction and Atlas Oil. He worked over 20 years as a construction foreman for Mountain View Landscapes and Construction in Chicopee. He was a communicant of Christ the King Church and a former member of the Gremio Lusitano Club of Ludlow. Armando loved woodworking and making furniture. He loved the outdoors and loved to garden and tend to his fruit and fig trees. He loved being able to help others and was always extending a helping hand. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and loved Nascar. He enjoyed spending time at the beach. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, truly cherished all his family and loved doting on his grandson Jude, who will miss him greatly. Armando was the loving husband of 44 years to Maria Teresa (DaSilva) Rodrigues of Chicopee; loving father to Sandy Rodrigues and Maryann Rodrigues, both of Chicopee; adoring grandfather to Jude Sullivan; brother to Jose Rodrigues and his wife Nancy of Brookfield, CT, and Firmino Rodrigues and his wife Paula, also of Brookfield, CT; Armando also leaves behind his father-in-law Manuel Dasilva. Also an extended family of brothers and sisters-in law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as many friends throughout the community. Armando’s funeral will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 9:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Christ the King Church at 10:00am followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are Wednesday evening from 4:00-7:00pm and In lieu of flowers, donations in Armando's name may be made to: D'Amour Center for Cancer Care, 3350 Main St. Springfield, MA. 01107.
