Armelin H. Saloio, Jr. 97, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Armelin was born in Ludlow to the late Armelin Sr. and Luciana (Ribeiro) Saloio. He was a United States Navy Veteran proudly serving his country as a Naval aircraft mechanic and test pilot during WWII, and following his service, he was employed as a civilian employee at Westover Air Force Base. He also worked at his family’s business Daylight Dairy, the Ludlow Mills, and enjoyed his career as a longtime mechanic. He was proud to have built a hot rod with his brother-in-law, which his son has restored and is still driving to this day. He was also a talented professional musician who loved playing alongside his family in the Saloio Family Band. Within the community, Armelin was a longtime member of Bethany Assembly of God, served on the Board of Directors for Luso Federal Credit Union, and played for many local and regional bands.
Armelin was the devoted husband of 53 years to Mary Grace (Palatino) Saloio until her passing in 2003. He leaves his loving children Arlene Reis and husband Richard, of East Longmeadow, Kathleen Saloio, of Ludlow, Marie Carcieri and husband William, of Rhode Island, Armelin “Lenny” Saloio III and wife Donna, of Ludlow, David Saloio and wife Sharon, of Springfield; and John Saloio and wife Louise, of Chester, Ma.; his 12 grandchildren and their families: Richard Reis, Jr, Karey Mortimer, Christopher Drost, Steven Drost, Rachael Pleitez, Gabriella Saloio, Caroline Saloio, Desiree Moriarty, Anthony Saloio, Cristina Schultz, Natalie Saloio, Jonathan Saloio; 3 brothers Arthur, Manuel, and Raymond; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends. Armelin was predeceased by his siblings James, Jose, and Carlos Saloio, Ida Santos, and Irene Methe.
Funeral services for Armelin will be held on Saturday, April 1st. Family and Friends are asked to gather directly at Bethany Assembly of God for visitation from 10:00-11:00am with a church service beginning at 11:00am. Procession will follow the service to Island Pond Cemetery for burial with Military Honors.
