Obituary for Arminda 'Mimi' (Mendes) DaSilva
Arminda "Mimi" DaSilva, 88, formerly of Yale St., was called Safely Home on April 11, 2012. Born in Ludlow, daughter of the late Joseph and Diolinda (Pereira) Mendes, she was a lifelong resident and 1941 graduate of Ludlow High School. Mimi worked at the Springfield Armory, Cromwell Mills, and Westinghouse before retiring as a Portuguese language teacher's aid for the Wilbraham Elementary Schools. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, a member of the Portuguese American Citizens and Gremio Lusitano Clubs, the Ludlow Senior Center, and Daughters of Isabella. Mimi was the beloved wife of the late Manuel Rocha DaSilva, who predeceased her in April of 2011; a loving mother to Joseph DaSilva and companion Barbara, of Maryland, Manny DaSilva Jr. and wife Cher, of Palmer, and John DaSilva and wife Deborah, of Ludlow, cherished grandmother to Jennifer Sheridan and husband Dan, of Heath, MA, Brian DaSilva and wife Jenny of Garland, TX, Michael DaSilva, of Somerville, MA, and Kristina Ford, of Sutton, MA; an adoring great-grandmother to Tyler and Haley Sheridan; a dear sister to Beatrice Jorge and her late husband Chief John R. Jorge, the late Alice Jorge and husband Fermino, and the late Yvonne Chapman and husband Arthur. She was loving aunt to many nieces and nephews and also leaves several loving extended family members and dear friends. A special thank you to Nurse Sarah and the entire staff of the Med Surgical Unit 5th floor in Mercy 5-2; Mercy Hospice, the entire staff at Keystone Commons and the Ludlow Police and Fire Paramedic Departments. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 17, 2011 at 8:30am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9:30am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 11:00am. Visiting hours are on Monday from 4-7 pm.
