Obituary for Arthur "A.J" Provost

Arthur J. Provost, 89, of Chicopee, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2008, surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Northbridge, Ma., son of the late Hilaire and Blanche Provost, he had lived in the Holyoke and Springfield areas before moving to Chicopee in 1980.  Arthur was a United States Army Veteran serving his country honorably during WWII.  He was a salesman for many years for Beechnut Co., a supervisor at U.S. Envelope and most recently worked for the West Springfield School System before retiring.  Arthur loved music and was a drummer for many years in a band.  He was also an avid golfer, reader and animal lover.  He was fluent in French and enjoyed the times he spent in Paris.  Arthur was the beloved husband of 24 years to Marilyn (Langone) Provost; a loving father to Jerry Provost and his wife Susan, of Chicopee; a dear brother to Estelle Clad and the late Armand Provost; a cherished grandfather to Geraldine, Janine, and Jeffrey; great-grandfather to Jenny, Juliette, Liam and Sean; and also leaves several loving nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.  Friends and family are asked to gather for funeral services with military honors on Tuesday afternoon at 2pm in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam.  Visiting hours are on Monday evening from 5-8pm at Ludlow Funeral Home and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers Home 110 Cherry Street Holyoke, Ma. 01040.
