Obituary for Assunta "Susie" Connaughton
Assunta “Susie” (Mencaroni) Connaughton, 90, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2011. Born in Springfield to the late Umberto and Palmira (Bracci) Mencaroni, she was a life long Springfield resident and a faithful communicant of the former St. Mary’s Church in East Springfield. Susie worked for many years at Electronic Coils before her retirement, she enjoyed bingo and was an avid gardener. Susie was the wife of the late Lawrence Connaughton who predeceased her in 1970. She leaves her daughter Ella Richter and her husband Darryl of Oklahoma; loving brother Paul Mencaroni and his wife Dorothy of East Longmeadow; cherished grandchildren Wayne, Sheila, Sherry, Sheryl and Mary Ellen; her caring grandniece Paula Collins and her husband Shane and a grandnephew Michael Mencaroni and his wife Ruthanne as well as 5 great-grand nieces and nephews. Sadly Susie was predeceased by her daughter Marjorie Wood, a granddaughter Sharon Wood and her sister Columbia “Connie” Mencaroni. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2011 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are 8:15am-9:15am followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Mary Mother of Hope Church in Springfield followed by burial in Hillcrest Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Susie’s memory to : D’Amour Center for Cancer Care, 3350 Main Street, Springfield, MA. 01107.
