Obituary for Audrey J. (Hatcher) Craven Stanley
Audrey J. (Hatcher) Craven Stanley, 86, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2024. Born in Springfield to the late Walter and Josephine (Kettell) Hatcher, she was a 1955 graduate of High School of Commerce and went on to further her education receiving a postgraduate degree with honors from the former Springfield Trade School, attending the Cooley Dickinson Hospital School of Nursing, and also receiving her certificate in Dental Assisting from R.L. Putnam Vocational School. Audrey held many positions in the healthcare field before beginning a 20 year career in the tax preparation field working for H&R Block. She moved to Ludlow in 1963 where she took evening classes at Ludlow High School and worked for 10 years as clerk for the Ludlow Board of Health.
Audrey enjoyed and participated in several sports and was extremely proud of earning her Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate. She also held the title of winner in the Women's Division of the Republican Hole in One Contest at Ludlow Country Club. She was also a former member of the Ludlow Boy’s and Girl’s Club, a member of the former St. James Methodist Church in Springfield, and loved the Red Sox, the beach, reading, puzzles, and especially spending time with her family and friends.
Audrey was the beloved wife of the late John E. Craven, who predeceased her in 1983 and the late Guy J. Stanley who predeceased her in 2008; a loving mother to Walter and Bill Craven, and the late John Craven; a cherished grandmother to Stephanie, Destin, Dillan, Rayanna, and Adam; and also leaves many loving extended family members and dear friends.
Visiting hours for Audrey will be held on Tuesday, May 14th from 4:00-5:30pm at Ludlow Funeral Home concluding with a funeral home chapel service at 5:30pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Springfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Audrey’s memory to the Ludlow Community Center Randall Boys and Girls Club.
