Obituary for Augusto DaCruz Teixeira
Augusto DaCruz Teixeira, 77, of Indian Orchard, Mass passed away unexpectedly on October 11, 2017.  He was born in Montalegre, Portugal on March 24, 1940 to the late Adolfo and Laura (Dias DaCruz) Teixeira.  He was a proud member of the Portuguese Army and worked on his family’s farm before emigrating to America.  After marrying the love of his life, Maria Isabel (DaSilva) on July 29, 1966 in Portugal, they moved into a cozy apartment in Ludlow.  Shortly after the birth of their son, Jose, he and his wife bought a house in a close knit Indian Orchard neighborhood where he lived for most of his life.  He was long-time member of the Gremio Lusitano Club, and he proudly displayed his first place trophy that he won during a Club-sponsored deep-sea fishing trip.  Augusto worked many years as a mason until his retirement.  After retiring, he spent time gardening, going to family gatherings, and enjoying every day with his beloved wife until she predeceased him in January 2016.  Augusto was an avid soccer fan who could be found in front of the radio or TV when FC Porto was playing.  He found joy tending to his grapevines and fruit trees and making wine.  He made us laugh with his quick wit and one-liners.  Augusto appreciated all who visited him over the years, and especially looked forward to his regular visits with three Jose’s (his son Jose, his brother Jose, and his brother-in-law Jose Fonseca) and his grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas.
Sadly, Augusto was predeceased by his beloved wife of over 49 years, Isabel Maria (DaSilva) Teixeira, his older brother Antonio R. Teixeira, sister-in-law Ana (Martins) Teixeira, and brother-in-law Luis Fernandes.  He will be deeply missed by his son, Jose Teixeira and his wife Susan of Ludlow; his grandchildren, Lauren and Nicholas Teixeira; his sisters Teresa (Antonio) Afonso, Maria Fernandes, Fatima (Joao) Ramalhete, and Irene (Manuel) Botelho; brothers Jose (Fatima) Teixeira and Armindo (Joaquina) Teixeira, and many loving extended family members and dear friends.  Augusto entered into eternal life by God’s grace and is now resting peacefully next to his wife in heaven. Funeral services for Augusto will be held on Monday, October 16, 2017 from the Ludlow Funeral Home. Visiting hours are Monday morning from 8:15-10:15am with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery.
