Obituary for Barbara A. Chaves
Barbara A. Chaves, 94, formerly of 173 Lakeview Avenue, Ludlow, died on January 12, 2013 at Wingate Nursing Home with two of her beloved grandaughters by her side. Barbara was born in Curalha, Portugal to the late Elisa dos Anjos Fonseca and Acacio Dias. She moved to Ludlow in 1970 where she lived for the next 44 years. Barbara leaves behind her daughter, Maria Elisa dos Anjos Silva Goncalves and her husband Manuel, her step-son Manuel Chaves and his wife Teresa, step-son Joe Chaves and his wife Nancy, and her step-daughter Maria Calvanese and her husband Joe all of Ludlow, her daughter-in-law Maria Chaves, of Shrewsbury; and her 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Barbara was predeceased by her first husband Alirio Augusto da Silva in 1954, her second husband Domingos Chaves in 1991, her step-son Carlos Chaves in 1977, and her step-son Manuel Chaves in 2002. Barbara will always be remembered for her strong-willed personality, love of gardening and cooking, and indulgence of her grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 15 from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12:30 in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Indian Orchard, MA. Visiting hours will precede the funeral from 10:30 to 11:30 at Ludlow Funeral Home.
