Obituary for Barbara (Fernandes) Messler
Barbara (Fernandes) Messler, 77, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2023 surrounded by her family. Born in Springfield to Aida Fernandes, she was a longtime resident and 1963 graduate of Cathedral High School. She enjoyed working for 26 years at Health South Rehabilitation Center in Ludlow where she made many lifelong friends. Barbara was an avid crafter who enjoyed crocheting and making jewelry. She also was an avid animal lover, and loved baseball and hockey, especially the Boston Red Sox and Springfield Thunderbirds of which she was a 30 year season ticket holder. Barbara was the beloved wife of the late John Messler who predeceased her in 1999 and a loving mother to Margaret Messler of Chicopee. She was predeceased by her 10 aunts and uncles; and also leaves many extended family members, dear friends, and her devoted feline Max.
Visiting hours for Barbara will be held on Saturday, July 8th from 10:00-11:30am in Ludlow Funeral Home concluding with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the animal adoption center of one’s choice.
