Obituary for Barry S. Dias
Barry Dias, 66, of Springfield passed away on Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010 surrounded by his loving family, in the comfort of his home. Born in Ludlow on January 1, 1944, to Mary (Duarte) Dias and the late Americo Dias, he was a graduate of Ludlow High School and served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era, receiving the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he was employed for 30 years at the Springfield Parks and Recreation Department, retiring in 2005, during his tenure he received a commendation from then Mayor Mary Hurley. Barry leaves his mother Mary Dias of Agawam; loving wife Catherine (Mcloughlin) Dias; beloved children Mike Thans and his wife Tara of Springfield and Cindy Forbes of Springfield; cherished brother Ronnie Dias of Wilbraham; his grandchildren, Samantha and Jared Thans and Kasie Forbes all of Springfield and many nieces and nephews. Barry was predeceased by his sister Cookie Hill and a brother Gus Sevivas. Committal services will take place on Wednesday, November 10th, 2010 at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 10:00am.
