Obituary for Bento R. Goncalves
Bento R. Goncalves, 70, of Fuller St., was called to Heaven on Wednesday, April 11, 2007. Born in Sabuzedo, Montalegre, Portugal, he came to Ludlow in 1967 where he was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. He worked for the former Alamac Knitting Mill and the former Moore Drop Forge for many years before retiring in 1986. He also was a member of the Ludlow Fish and Game Club and was a tailor, handyman and loved to fix things. Bento was the beloved husband of 48 years to Rosa (de Miranda) Goncalves; a loving father of Jose and his wife Maria, Domingos and his wife Elisabete and Joaquim and his wife Tammy, all of Ludlow; a dear brother to Domingos and his wife Mercedes, Antonio and his wife Candida, Jose and his wife Antonia, all of Ludlow, Maria Machado and her husband Arnaldo, of Portugal, and the late Fernando and his wife Delfim and Laurinda Goncalves Martins; cherished grandfather of  David, Miranda, Alexandrea, Dominique, Elisha, Joy and Gina; great-grandfather of 3 and also leaves many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are on Saturday morning at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Friday evening from 5-7pm.
