Obituary for Brian T. "Buzz" Connery
Brian T. “Buzz” Connery, 83, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home on September 23, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Born in Springfield, son of the late Thomas and Lilias (Winn) Connery, he was a graduate of Cathedral High School, received his Bachelor’s Degree from AIC and Master’s Degree from Westfield State College. Buzz was a United States Veteran and proudly served in the United States Air Force. He served overseas, and was stationed in France in 1961 during the Berlin Crisis. He returned to Massachusetts where he married Connie in 1962. He spent 50 years in the field of Education, splitting his time between the Ludlow Public Schools and Springfield Technical Community College.

Buzz loved teaching. He taught Drivers Education, History, US Government, and made these subjects come alive with his dry wit and funny stories. He also spent time in administration, serving as Vice Principal at the Middle and High Schools. He was a communicant of Christ the King in Ludlow where he volunteered teaching CCD.

Buzz was passionate about sports, especially basketball and baseball. He was an accomplished athlete during his youth, where his athletic prowess won his numerous awards, including being indoctrinated into the Forest Park Hall of Fame. He coached basketball for many years and was an integral part of Ludlow High School’s sports program and a mentor to many. Buzz also took an active interest in politics, local and Ludlow town affairs. He was active in his support of the Massachusetts Teachers’ Association and the Democratic Party, as well as a member of Town Meetings. Buzz was an outgoing, independent spirit who enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends in the community.

Whether you called him Buzz, Mr. Connery, Coach, or Brian, he always had a quick smile for you and surrounded you with his easy going manner. He loved giving back to his community and has asked that in lieu of flowers, any donations made in his name be sent to the Community Survival Center in 240 Main St. Indian Orchard, Massachusetts, Ma. 01151.

Brian was the beloved husband of the late Constance E. (Podoski) Connery, who predeceased him in 2010; the loving father to Bethany Connery, of Ludlow, and Leslie Connery, of Richardson, TX; the proud and devoted grandfather to Connor Hanna; dear brother of Richard Connery, of Indian Orchard, and the late Thomas Connery (2009); he also leaves many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and incalculable former colleagues and students. Visiting hours for Buzz will be held on Thursday, September 26th from 4:00-7:00pm at Ludlow Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 27th at 9:30am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Christ the King Church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family at the Agawam Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
