Obituary for Clara (Coelho) Correia
Clara (Coelho) Correia, 86, of Ludlow, died peacefully on January 19, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Antonio J. and Maquelina A. (Pereira) Coelho, she spent her youth in Portugal before returning to the U.S. in 1949. She lived in CT and FL for most of her life before moving to Ludlow in 1995 where she was a faithful communicant of Christ the King Church and a member of the Ludlow Senior Citizens Club. Clara was the beloved mother of Elaine Santos (former wife of Horacio "Rosco" Santos), of Springfield, a devoted grandmother to Raymond Santos and wife Jennifer, of R.I. and Christine (Santos) Shukes and husband Anthony, of Springfield; a loving great-grandmother to Gabrielle, Noah, and Reilly Santos, and Jackson Shukes; a dear sister to Pricilla Howes Amos, of FL, and the late Aureno and Julio Coelho; and sister in law to Gloria and Rose Coelho, Irene Joaquim, Maria Moura, and Aurora Correia. She was predeceased by her former husband Albino J. Correia in 2011, and also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends throughout MA, CT, VT, FL, and AZ. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 9am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10am in Christ the King Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Wednesday from 4-7pm.
