Obituary for Custodia (Zina) Braz
Custodia Zina Braz, 96, of Ludlow MA died peacefully at her home on January 18, 2012 in the company of her loved ones. Custodia was born on Franklin St in Ludlow on October 28, 1915 , daughter of the late Torcato and Amelia Zina. When she was 5 years old, she and her family moved back to Sobral da Lagoa, Obidos, Portugal. In 1961, in the pursuit for a better life for their children, she and her husband Arsenio decided to immigrate back to America. Custodia was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and her strength, work ethic, perseverance and kindness will forever be cherished. She is predeceased by her husband Arsenio Braz who passed away in 1979 and her brothers Jose, Antonio, Joao and Torcato. Custodia was the beloved mother of four sons and a daughter; Jose Bras and wife Teresa of Masaryktown, FL, Ivone Z Braz Fatal and husband Orlando Fatal of Ludlow, Antonio Z Braz and wife Joan of Ludlow, Arsenio Z Braz of Ludlow and Orlando Z Braz, retired Postmaster of Wilbraham and wife Helena of Ludlow; 2 sisters, Maria Amelia Zina Santos of Indian Orchard and Lourdes Zina Pimpao of Portugal; 8 beloved grandchildren; Gilbert Fatal, Joe Jr and David Bras, Eleanor Blanchard, Lisa Devine, Tony Braz, and Jeffrey and Hayley Braz and 11 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Custodia worked at Cromwell Mills and Chicopee Undergarment and retired in 1980. She had a loving passion for knitting and quilting and created many beautiful patterns, blankets and embroideries. Custodia had a deep devotion to the Lord and Our Lady of Fatima. She prayed the rosary daily and cared deeply for her entire family. She was a faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church and in prior years, continuously volunteered in cleaning and dressing up the church. Custodia accomplished many things; and her life is about the joy she brought to people, the beauty she surrounded herself with and the generosity she showed to so many. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful individuals that touched her life. Funeral services for Custodia will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 8:00am from the Ludlow Funeral Home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated in Our Lady of Fatima Church at 9:00am followed by interment in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Friday evening from 4:00pm-7:00pm. Custodia’s grandchildren have decided to offer memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to: Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston or to Shriners’ Children Hospital, Carew St., Springfield Ma.
