Obituary for Cynthia Blatt
Cynthia (Cindy) Annette Blatt, 75, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2022, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born in Springfield, MA on October 11, 1946, daughter of the late Myrtice and Stephen Melnyck Sr. She was a 1964 graduate of Ludlow High School where she was a majorette in the high school band and made lifelong friendships. In 1965, she married her high school sweetheart Richard (Dickie) Kolodziey. The couple lived life to the fullest. Cindy was Dickie’s biggest fan through his collegiate sports career and beyond. They loved to travel and were best friends. In addition to being an avid reader and lover of history, she also enjoyed working in her yard and planting flowers. On most days she could be found reading in the sunshine on the porch with a cup of tea or listening to music with her beloved animals by her side. Cindy was always a dedicated mom to her daughters Kara and Cortney. She loved to host holidays and parties for her family. Cindy was always active in her daughters’ school activities and sports through chaperoning and volunteering, including serving as a Girl Scout Troop leader and devoted soccer mom. Once the girls were old enough, Cynthia pursued her career and worked at Ludlow Savings Bank, Mass Mutual, and ended her career as administrator of the Health Services Department at American International University (then American International College). She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters Kara Kolodziey Sawa and Cortney Kolodziey, and her cherished granddaughter Ella Dae Sawa. She leaves her brother and best friend Stephen Charles Melnyck Jr. She is also survived by several beloved nieces, nephews, and dear cousins from the Melnyck and Kolodziey families of Ludlow, MA, and the Brinn and Potter families of NC. Cynthia was blessed to find love again and was predeceased by her second husband Neil Blatt and her former husband and dearest friend, Richard Kolodziey.

Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday, April 23 from 9:00am to 11:00am at the Ludlow Funeral Home. A Chapel Service celebrating her life will begin at 11:00am. A private graveside service will be held at Island Pond Cemetery at a later date. Donations in Cynthia’s memory may be made to the Dakin Humane Society 171 Union St, Springfield, MA 01105.
