Obituary for David F. Savitt

David F. Savitt, 86, a long-time resident of Ludlow, MA, passed away on May 14, 2020, from complications of COVID-19. David was born in Fitchburg, MA, to the late Milton “Duke” Savitt and Eileen (Gillen) Savitt, on November 9, 1933. He was a 1952 graduate of Fitchburg High School, where he spent many happy hours on the gridiron, fighting for his beloved Red Raiders. David had a lifelong career, as an Advertising Sales Executive, with WHIL Radio in Boston, MA, WARE Radio, in Ware, MA, and retired from WHYN Radio and TV in Springfield, MA. His creative energy and charming smile lent to his success. David did not miss an opportunity for a practical joke or a good laugh. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, listening to music, singing Karaoke, and was an avid fan of his cherished Red Sox and Patriots. David was the loving husband of his late wife, Constance P. (Boudreau) Savitt, who predeceased him in 1960. Together, they had four children; Sandra A. Savitt, of Enfield, CT, Bruce R. Savitt and wife Ellen, of Glenn Heights, TX, Karen A. Savitt and husband Patrick Heintz, of Bluffton, S.C., and Deidra M. Thompson and husband Vincent, of Ludlow, MA. David later married the late Nancy L. (Walker) Savitt, who predeceased him in 2002. Together, they had three children; Pamela A. King and husband William, of Chicopee, MA, Robin L. Savitt-King, of Ludlow, MA, and Lisa M. Savitt-King and husband David, of Ludlow, MA. The families blended, as one. David was the cherished Grandfather of Breanne, Wesley, Ian, Emily, Sarah, Michael, Stephanie, Collin, Cameron, Benjamin, Matthew, Corrina, and Billy. David was predeceased by his Grandson, Brandon, in 2006. He was also a Great-Grandfather of 10. He leaves his dear sisters, Deborah Winsor and husband Ronald, of Windham, NH, and Rebecca Wohlleib and husband John, of Shrewsbury, MA. David was also predeceased by his younger brother, Richard, in 1954. He leaves several extended family members and dear friends, as well. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of Parkway Pavilion and Fresh River Healthcare for the comfort and care they provided to David. A public memorial service honoring David’s life will be celebrated at a later date at Ludlow Funeral Home. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in David’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association (, or any charity of your choice.
