Obituary for David Goncalves
David G. Goncalves, 46, reunited with his father on December 8, 2021. He was the husband of Rebecca (Menke) Goncalves with whom he shared a loving marriage with for 19 years. David was a life-long resident of Ludlow, graduating from Ludlow High School in 1993. He then went on to receive a BS in chemical engineering at WPI where he was a member of Phi Kappa Theta and made many lifelong friendships.

David became an accomplished Professional Engineer certified in both Massachusetts and New York. Throughout his 24 year career he proudly worked his way from a skilled project manager at Black & Veatch, Tighe & Bond and most recently Territory manager for the Greater New England Area at Mott MacDonald. Always going above and beyond, David was quick to volunteer his time. While at Mott MacDonald, he served on the Sustainability Steering Committee and was a part of the mentorship program. He was an active member of the AWWA, WEF and led many presentations for the yearly NEWEA conferences. David also served The Town of Ludlow as a past member of Ludlow Board of Public Works as well as working on multiple projects for the town and surrounding communities throughout Western Massachusetts and New England.

David was a member Our Lady of Fatima Church and Gremio Lusitano. He played a leading role in organizing and the continued success of the annual Luso Open golf tournament for many years. Golfing and gathering with family and friends to enjoy a hearty meal and post meal CRF on the rocks was when he was most fulfilled.

There are no words that convey his character as a man but he will be remembered for his love, loyalty, humility, integrity and respectfulness. David will be loved for his huge smile, optimism, bear hugs, impeccable facetime requests, and ability to connect with others, bringing light and laughter to the room like no other.

He is survived by his supportive wife, Rebecca, and his adored children, Antonio and Hannah, who were his pride and joy. David leaves his loving and devoted mother Carminda and her caring husband Artur, favorite sister Amy, and was predeceased by his father Antonio. He will be missed by his godchildren Dominique, Nina, Jakob, and Sophia and godparents Domingos and Maria. He leaves many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, and many cherished friends who are too numerous to mention. He will also be missed by his “beach family” in Salisbury, where he would enjoy short walks on the beach.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 15, Family and friends are asked to gather directly at 9am at Our Lady of Fatima Church for a Liturgy of Christian Mass followed by burial at Island Pond Cemetery. Calling hours will be at Ludlow Funeral Home, Tuesday, December 14, 3-6pm.
