Obituary for Dolores " Dolly" (Mello) Lima Gurski
Dolores Gurksi (Dolly to her friends), 97, was called to heaven on February 12, 2022. Born in Fall River to the late Bernardino Augusto & Maria Mello-Pereira and raised in Portugal, she bravely returned to the United States, a country little known to her, at the tender age of 17. In Ludlow, she built her life. Stronger than her small frame might indicate, and fiercely independent, she worked for many years at the Ludlow Textile Factory before retiring to care for her granddaughter. She managed many challenges in her life – including living through the Great Depression, but always found joy in her family and loved ones. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, watching her soap operas, and being with her family.
Dolores was predeceased by her parents, first husband, Antonio Lima (father of her daughter, Doreen) and her second husband, Alexander Gurski, as well as her brother Joe Albuquerque. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Doreen and Tom Fidalgo, her granddaughter and husband, Alicia and Rafe Wise, and her adored and loved great-grandchildren Nora and Gabe.
Funeral services for Dolores are on Saturday, February 19th. Family and friends are asked to gather for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in St. Aloysius Cemetery. There are no visiting hours and in lieu of gifts and flowers, and because of Dolores’s love for animals and children, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Thomas J. O’Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center, 627 Cottage Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104, or to any charity of your choice.
