Obituary for Domingos Frutuozo
Domingos (“Dominick”) Frutuozo, 96, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Thursday morning, August 18th while at Hospice Home of High Point, NC. He was born in 1919 in Ludlow, MA, and spent much of his early childhood in Gralhas, Portugal. Returning to the States, he attended Classical High School and later joined his father at the former Birnie Sand and Gravel in Wilbraham, where he would work for over 44 years. From 1942 to 1945, Domingos proudly served in the U.S. Army’s 643rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, which involved reconnaissance in the European Theater and included battles in Ardennes, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was honorably discharged with Good Conduct and European Service Victory medals . In 1950, Domingos married the 2nd oldest of eight sisters, Deolinda, and they were blessed with three sons. Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling, continuing to attend the 643rd army reunions and faithfully volunteering for many years at both the Ludlow Senior Center and Bethlehem Church in Hampden. Domingos was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years in 2010, brother Ralph (1954), and sister Anna Veiga (2014). He is survived and greatly missed by sons Dominick (Marcia) and Raymond of High Point, NC, Richard (Nancy) of Harrisonburg, VA, grandchildren Elizabeth, Jonathan and Sela Grace, dear sister Lucy (John) DalZova of Springfield, sister-in-law Menta (Tony) Bernardo of Ludlow, sister- in-law Billie Amaral of Portugal, and many nieces and nephews.
Viewing and services will be held at Bethlehem Church at 10:30 on Thursday followed by interment at the Agawam Veterans Cemetery at 2:00. In lieu of flowers, donations in his honor may be made to Bethlehem Church ,123 Allen St., Hampden, MA 01036, The Springfield Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 9045, Springfield, MA 01102 or Pioneer Valley Region Massachusetts Citizens for Life, P. O. Box 96, Ludlow, MA 01056.
