Obituary for Domingos M. Calheno
Domingos M. Calheno, 93, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2008. Born in Alturas-Boticas, Portugal, son of the late Joaquim and Constancia Calheno, he served in the Portuguese Army before moving to Ludlow where he was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and a proud member of the Gremio Lusitano and Portuguese American Citizens Clubs. He worked for several years for the Ludlow Boys and Girls Club before retiring in 1980 and also enjoyed gardening and making homemade wine. Domingos was the beloved husband of over 59 years to Carminda (Pires da Silva) Calheno; a loving father to Agostino Calheno and his fiancée Paula, and James Calheno and his wife Paula, all of Ludlow; a cherished grandfather to Agostino Jr. and his wife Jennifer, Melissa, Kristin, Justin and Lynsey Calheno; and a dear uncle to several nieces and nephews including “Sally” Fonte and Florence Shea. Friends and family are asked to gather for a liturgy of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Church followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. Visiting hours are on Friday evening from 5-8pm at Ludlow Funeral Home.
