Obituary for Donald "Red" Pollard Sr.
Donald E. “Red” Pollard, 84, of Ludlow, was called to Heaven on March 17, 2009. Born in Brattleboro, Vt, the son of the late Winfield and Anna (Dunn) Pollard, he came to Ludlow in 1964 after his retirement from the United States Air Force and worked for several years at Smith and Wesson. Donald proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force for over 20 years during WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Era and was a well decorated Veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star. He was also a faithful communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, enjoyed woodworking and was a volunteer at the Ludlow Senior Center for many years. Donald was the beloved husband of the late Yvette (Lavigne) Pollard, who predeceased him in 2004; a loving father to Donald Jr. and wife Kathy, of Ludlow, Michael and wife Staci, of Okalhoma, Jim and wife Lynn, of Ludlow, Gerald and wife Marjorie, of Sheffield, and Beverly Lawler-Hawley and Shirley Pollard, both of Ludlow; a cherished grandfather of 19 and great-grandfather of 10; and also leaves many other loving relatives and dear friends. Funeral services are on Friday afternoon at 11am from Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12pm in St. Mary of the Assumption Church followed by burial in Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Agawam. Visiting hours are on Thursday evening from 4-7pm.
