Dorothea N. Day passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, January 20th, 2026. She was born in Ludlow, on March 3rd, 1933 to the late Joaquina and Joseph Nunes. Dottie was born 8th in a family of 9 girls and was predeceased by all. After school she worked briefly in the insurance field. She spent the balance of her career at Westvaco Corporation (formerly U.S. Envelope Company) retiring as an Executive Assistant after 39 years of service. For many years she served as Treasurer of the Campaign Committee of former State Senator Brian P. Lees. Dottie loved all sports, particularly ice hockey. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She and her husband travelled extensively throughout the USA. A favorite trip was a 3-month cross country motor trip where they visited every Presidential Library.
Leaving to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Arthur W. Day, married November 13, 1954. They shared 72 happy years. She leaves her beloved daughter and best friend, Judith Day-Sanderson and her life long partner, David Burroughs of Basking Ridge, NJ. and her cherished grandchildren Cole Day Sanderson and Tory Day Sanderson both of Boston, MA. She also leaves an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Linda Schoonover for the excellent and committed care given to Dottie over 30 years.
Funeral services for Dottie will be held on Tuesday, January 27th. Visitation is from 9:15-10:15am at Ludlow Funeral Home concluding with a chapel service at 10:30am followed by burial in Island Pond Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dottie's memory to Dana Farber Cancer Care Institute and The Jimmy Fund (danafarber.org)
